–Daniel Andrews courts global defence companies for Victorian jobs

February 26, 2018

Washington. Victorian premier Daniel Andrews is counting on deals with big defence companies to add thousands of jobs to the state, as the federal government prepares a slew of contracts for local work.

The Premier has used a trade mission to Washington to pitch the idea to chief executives at global defence companies including Lockheed Martin.

“There’s $1 billion being spent on Australian companies and 65 per cent of that supply chain is located in Melbourne, so they’re a key partner,” Mr Andrews told The Age.

“That’s anchoring a lot of jobs. It’s worth about 20,000 jobs across Victoria.

“We had a bunch of meetings around the opportunities for further work in that sector.” – #1 News in a FLASH
