Thai police say the 22-year-old partner of Australian woman Emily Jayne Collie, is to face charges of reckless driving, causing death, following a tragic weekend jet-ski accident.
Tom Keating and Ms Collie, 20, collided while riding jet-skis Sunday afternoon near Kata Beach in Phuket.
Mr Keating told authorities that strong sunlight reflecting off the sea made it impossible to see the jet-ski of Ms Collie, resulting in the collision.
Ms Collie, from Kyabram in central Victoria, perished from injuries sustained following a collision with her partner’s jet-ski.
Thai lifeguards dragged Ms Collie from the water and performed CPR for 15 minutes in a bid to revive her before she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Chalit Thintharnee from Thai Police said: “Tomorrow he (Thomas Keating) will report himself to the police and will be charged with carelessness, causing death to another. We will send the case to the prosecutor and the court.”
Meanwhile, Ms Collie’s parents arrived in Phuket on Wednesday.
Ms Collie, from Kyabram in central Victoria was a student at Charles Sturt University and had attended Goulburn Valley Grammar School in Shepparton, according to her Facebook page.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) said consular assistance is being provided to the woman’s family.
