At least five ambulances are on the scene of a hot air balloon crash in Victoria’s Yarra Valley on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Bleases Lane in Dixon’s Creek about 7am.
A Country Fire Authority spokesman said crews were called to reports of a heavy landing.
Up to four units are responding and paramedics are currently assessing six people at the scene.
The Age understands Ambulance Victoria have activated their mass casualty plan but the condition of the six people remains unknown.
Coldstream-based company Go Wild Ballooning is the operator of the flight.
Local woman Andrea Hamer said she heard sirens about 7.15am and a helicopter shortly after.
“We never get emergencies and we never hear that so I noticed it. I thought it was my grandson playing with a toy or something.”
“It’s very unusual.”
Ms Hamer said hot air balloons were common in the area but said conditions were quite windy on Thursday morning.
A caller to 3AW, Mark, said he saw the balloon on the ground about 500 metres from his vantage point.
“I was driving past that way heading to Wodonga. The (two) balloons were getting closer to the ground,” he said.
“The basket was on its side and people were close around it.
“I thought, ‘That doesn’t look right’.”
