–Melbourne City councillor Tessa Sullivan resigns after sex harassment claim

December 16, 2017

Melbourne City councillor Tessa Sullivan has resigned, saying she and other women had experienced “repeated sexual harassment which had made their workplace intolerable”.

Ms Sullivan resigned on Friday afternoon.

The Age sent a list of questions on Saturday about the resignation to council chief executive Ben Rimmer and the council’s media manager, Mandy Frostick.

Late on Saturday, Ms Frostick sent a short statement in reply, on behalf of Ms Sullivan.

“Councillor Tessa Sullivan, a member of Team Doyle, tendered her resignation from council late on Friday, effective immediately,” the statement said.

“Ms Sullivan stated that she had resigned after herself and other women had experienced repeated sexual harassment which had made their workplace intolerable.”

Mr Rimmer emailed all Melbourne City councillors on Saturday to tell them of Ms Sullivan’s resignation, saying he would be advising Local Government Minister Marlene Kairouz.

Ms Sullivan was elected to council in November 2016. – #1 News in a FLASH
