Two alleged bikie bosses have been caught up in ACT Policing’s biggest operation against outlaw motorcycle gangs in Canberra.

Owen Turnbull, 25, the suspected sergeant-at-arms of the Nomads, was one of the men arrested in a raid on Wednesday of more than a dozen properties.

Police allege he was trying to flush cocaine and ecstasy tablets down the toilet when they raided his house.

He is among six men charged as part of the operation, alongside a 35-year-old man thought to be the president of the Comancheros.

The raids uncovered three illegal firearms and other prohibited weapons including nunchucks and slingshots.

Over 700 suspected MDMA tablets, cocaine, methylamphetamine and cannabis were seized, as well as $40,000 cash police say is the proceeds of crime.

Stolen Australian Service Medals were also discovered.

Mr Turnbull faced the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of crime, and two charges of trafficking a controlled drug other than cannabis.

The suspected Comancheros president will be facing court for tax offences.

Detective acting superintendent Matt Reynolds said the raids were ACT Policing’s “biggest single operation in a day”.

They come after a number of shootings in Canberra suburbs in recent months linked to bikie gangs.

“We’re hoping that taking some of the key players out of the OMCG will have an effect on their activities,” he said.

ACT Chief Police Officer Justine Saunders said this was an excellent outcome for the taskforce.

“This operation is just one step in our ongoing efforts to combat serious and organised criminal activity in the territory — particularly firearms BOOKr.VIP violence associated with Canberra’s outlaw motorcycle gangs,” she said.

“The safety of our community is paramount and recent shooting incidents in our suburbs only serve to highlight the need for continued focus on disrupting these violent criminal groups.”
