Training with the WAFL club is part of his 8 week ban by the Dockers.

Harley Bennell’s chances of re-igniting his stalled AFL career have taken another hit as Fremantle revealed he had suffered a fresh injury to his left calf.

Scans today confirmed Bennell sustained a grade one tear in the muscle while training with Peel during a club-imposed suspension.

Calf problems have limited the 25-year-old to two games since being traded to the Dockers from the Gold Coast at the end of the 2015 season.

However the club has tonight said the latest muscle tear is “in an area of his left calf unrelated to a previous injury”.

Harley Bennell has been at the Dockers for two years.

Fremantle have estimated Bennell’s recovery period at three weeks, however his history of calf problems means he will likely be treated with extreme caution.

The forward will continue to train with the Thunder after the Dockers handed him a $15,000 fine and minimum eight-week ban for failing to turn up for the first training session of the year hours after being evicted from a Fremantle nightclub.
